  1. Take a deeper look at Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin. I would also suggest that the influence of Catholic thinking on Vance neè Bowman is much less social justice and liberation theology and much Opus Dei and Tradwifery, more Amy Barrett than Dorothy Day.
Again, just a deeper dive. I believe you’ll see what’s actually there rather than the proffered whitewash.
In my mind Vance is more similar to B. Clinton both in origin story and career track, and even though I’m a confirmed liberal that is not meant as a compliment.

    1. Thanks, Larry. I suspect you’re right. It’s just that encountering a Republican that Teamsters value and who’s influenced by Rene Girard or even mentions “Catholic Social Teaching” is so unusual. Your warning is well taken.

      1. It’s probably good to know that there is a great deal of dissension within the Teamsters and a significant faction that is unhappy about O’Brien’s appearance at the RNC.
Like you I’m hopeful that Harris and Walz will be a departure from the neoliberal bullshit that every Dem President has bought into since the Reagan era.
I should probably mention that as a young man/farmer I considered myself conservative and voted for Reagan twice. I began to move away from that in the late 80’s and my arrival at Berea College in 1992 at the age of 46 accelerated that move, and especially classes such as RHP. As a PolySci major I never had you for a class but I did hear some of your lectures and I attended several of your wife’s Peanut Butter and Gender sessions.
My conservative friends had a sad that I “became radicalized”. I reply that education will have that effect.
I enjoy your writing even when I vigorously disagree.
